Dr. Manmohan Singh was unconvincing in his reply to pointed questions on him being in office but not in power at the press conference yesterday. A perfect example of his strings being pulled from above him is the fact that Ambika Soni was made a minister. Ambika Soni? Minister? Cabinet rank? Pure sycophancy finally gains recognition. There is not an iota of evidence to support the allegation that she is even vaguely competent to run a ministry and I'm sure the good doctor would not have wanted her in the ministry. His hand was not forced, it was forcefully lifted and moved around.

Goa and Jharkhand, not to mention Bihar would definitely not have been the work of a man who remains honest but still powerless to do anything positive. The Q affair, Natwar Singh's initial defiance and sundry other instances are evidence of him being a mere figurehead. If he has any self-respect, he should resign instead of being humiliated like this on a constant basis by the white shroud and her army of willing unprintables.
