I read in today's print edition of the Tabloid of India that doctors in Wisconsin have successfully pioneered an alternative treatment for rabies. A girl who was bitten by a rabid bat in a church was brought to the hospital one month after the incident. Since it was already too late to administer the appropriate vaccination, the doctors tried an alternative course of action. Since the statistics indicated that more people died of brain complications than the rabies virus, they gave the girl coma inducing medication and then treated her with anti-viral medication and other medication designed to boost her immune system. Once her body started producing enough virus destroying anti-bodies they slowly stopped the coma inducing medication and allowed her to regain conciousness.
